Falconer Family Tree

Metal Family Tree

This is a project aimed at making it easy to see who inspired the bands you love or even hate. For this I try not to use any influences that the band don’t claim themselves. There will be a focus on predecessors but successors will be added as they site the band. These trees become more and more interactive as new bands are added, allowing you to click any band that has a tree and jump to it.

We want our lists to be better. If you know something that belongs on this list, let us know. When in doubt we will leave it out, so we need reliable sources.

Falconer is a unique band blending traditional, power, folk, and even progressive metal elements into their sound. To call them purely folk or power metal doesn’t really do them justice. Stefan Weinerhall has been the main writer of Falconer writing the vast majority of everything the band has done. He doesn’t name direct influences but says he’s probably influenced subconsciously by a lot of the bands he listens to. So, I will focus on the bands he says he loves.

Jethro Tull are a progressive/folk rock band known for front man Ian Anderson’s use of the flute. Stefan named them as the most important band to him.

Often considered the fathers of Death metal even though that is also often argued against. No matter what Death were hugely influential not just for their early death metal contributions but also their more progressive sound as they developed.

Bathory easily the fathers of black metal as it is known today. After setting the founding for black metal they ventured in to some thrash and then into their “viking” metal sound.

Other members of the band surely contribute to the sound of Falconer but since the writing is done by Stefan his influences are the focus.
